Dave Brubeck - Take Five
Monday 22nd September ‘25
Celebrating the 66th anniversary of Take Five & album launch party.
First released September 22nd 1959, Take Five celebrates it’s 66th birthday with the record release ‘Best of Dave Brubeck’ which we’re privileged to host at The Crooked Billet. Take Five, the lead single from The Dave Brubeck Quartet album 1959 album Time Out became the highest selling jazz single of all time. Brubeck was the first musician to form a racially diverse band in 1951. The quartet’s album Time Out was the first jazz record to sell over one million copies. Featuring Take Five, a tune written by the quartet’s saxophonist Paul Desmond.
Monday 22nd, the classic Brubeck quartet of Martin Pickett on piano, Andy Crowdy on bass, Charlie Stratford on drums & Ollie Weston on saxophone will perform Time Out including Take Five in it’s entirety along with other Brubeck classics - ‘I Feel Pretty’, ‘Summer Song’, ‘It’s a Ragy Waltz’, ‘Unsquare Dance’, ‘Trolley Song’, ‘The Duke’ & cool west coast jazz standards. In 1996, Brubeck received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. He continued working until his death - one day before his 92nd birthday; December 5th 2012 where he had been scheduled to perform a birthday concert with a host of famous musicians.
