The Blues Band
The blues band formed 42 years ago. 1979 Paul Jones, Dave Kelly, Tom McGuiness, Gary Fletcher & Hughie Flint. 5 of Britain’s most talented performers, song writers, hit making musicians formed what has become probably the worlds best known & much loved blues bands.
Paul Jones performed in a blues duo with Brian Jones when in 1962 Brian & Keith Richards asked PJ to be lead singer of a group they were forming. PJ turned down the offer joining Manfred Man as front man & vocalist, enjoying numerous hits, world acclaim becoming the first south of England band to hit the American charts. PJ 1964 hit 5-4-3-2-1 was the theme tune to ‘Ready Steady Go’. In 1966 PJ embarked on a successful solo career, acting, music & broadcasting. Enjoyed several hit records, numerous acting roles, movie, tv & stage including ‘Privilege’ with Jean Shrimpton, The Sweeny, Evita with Julie Covington & performances with the Royal Shakespeare Company. PJ started presenting Radio Two’s The Blues Show in 1985 which has become much loved fixture in the schedule. As well as The Blues Band PJ is a member of the Manfreds. As a session musician, recording artist & performer PJ has worked with EVERYBODY from Eric Clapton to Percy Sledge from Joe Bonamussa to Jools Holland.
Dave Kelly, one of Britain’s most loved, adored & respected Blues guitarists. Trace his roots back to the early 1960’s as a teenage English man in New York playing thee Manhattan Blues clubs. Returning to Britain in 1967 he joined the John Drummer Blues Band- enjoying much European success & record sales. Late 60’s Dave was an established solo & session artist recording & performing with all the greats including Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, The Allman brothers, Bill Payne, James Burton, Freddie King, Howlin Wolf, John Lee Hooker & Son House. As well as The Blues Band Dave enjoys enormous success as a solo artist & with his own Dave Kelly Band. Fans of the Crooked Billet boogie pianist Ben Waters will have loved & witnessed Ben’s farewell show at Stamford Bridge Chelsea football ground- Ben, Dave Kelly, Ronnie Wood & and a stage packed with incredible special guests.
